What are the actually rates for a 30 year fixed mortgage?

Migdalia
I know what I can see on bankrate.com and other sites, but what are people actually getting for a rate on a 30 year fixed? If you recently bought a house or refinanced, what was your rate? Did you have to buy points? Thanks

Grady
A safe bet for a 30-yr fixed rate mortgage (conventional, FHA, or VA) would be 5.5%. Companies out there are advertising rates around 5% or less, but the great majority of people who do not want gimmicks or buy downs are getting 5.5%.I hope this helps!

every person's situation is different and your income, debt levels and credit score will determine the rates you will be offered - there is no one general rule for everyone

Depends on the area and each lender
