Refinancing my mothers house?

Grady
My mom and cousin were checking on my credit report and it said for security purposes to list the mortgage company I am with. I never looked at or considered buying a house so this information is incorrect. Since it said I own a house and they don't see me living in a house they feel I may have refinanced my mothers house. My mothers name is Patricia and my name is Tom. Since I am male and she is female how could I possibly refinance my mothers house? They are wrong and it is illegal for them to look up my credit report without my permission but they are suspicious that I may have stole from my mother. I told them I didn't refinance the house. I hate the fact that they feel I may own a house and I actually own nothing. How should I deal with this fact that they think I own a house and I don't and could I really refinance my mothers house?

Simple:Tell the credit reporting company to correct it!

First, how did your Mom and cousin access your credit report? In order to do so they would need personal information beyond just address and birth date. They would need your social security number. How did they get the information to perform the search? Beyond that, why were they interested in doing a search on you? What you should do is a search for yourself to make sure the information on it is correct. After getting your own report you can prove there is no mortgage listed on it.

You cannot refinance anything if it isn't in your name. How is it tho, that your Mom and cousin are checking on your credit report?

if they were checking online for your credit it asks you a few questions and you chose the best answer. they try to trick you they ask about who your mortgage is through to identify yourself, all you have to chose is i don't have a mortgage or something to that effect, it is one of the choices or it may be none of the above. If they spoke with someone they have no reason to be checking on your credit and the person they were talking to shouldn't have said anything to them due to the privacy acts in place. I would go to annualcreditreport.com and pull all 3 bureaus, you can do this once a year for free, it tells you all of the items on your credit and yes they will ask these types of questions but just follow as i have said. If there is something on there that is incorrect they instruct you on how you can dispute the incorrect items. I am sure it was just something your mom and cousin saw it ask a question about a mortgage and overreacted and started accusing, it happens. Good Luck
