Is there any programs that help the terminally ill cancer patients their familys in a financial crisis?
EllamaeMy husband has cancer and is terminally ill. We tried to make ends meet but we still had to file bankruptcy. Now we are trying to get our house refinance, but having no luck because of the bankruptcy. We are now in a financial crisis because of the cancer. If there is any help out there PLEASE let me know. Thanks
BethanieThere is a group called Hospice that can help with medications and also provide in home nursing care. They are available regardless of your ability to pay. You can try your local Social Services office but if you have any type of assets they are reluctant to help. Do you have a home church? Lots of times Church's help people that are in a financial hardship. I wish you the best of luck. God Bless.
AureliaThe American Cancer Society has financial help with meds. The Cancer society of (enter your state's name)A Hospice facility.Have you tried the Red Cross?Call a mental health crisis center. They are around 24/7. They should be able to refer you to some other places.Call the cancer center where your husband is receiving care. One would certainly think that they would have some resources for you.Have you talked to Medicare? A person any age will qualify for medicare if they have a disability. If he has not worked for at least a year, you might qualify for social security disability (SSDI) benefits (monthly "free" income) AND supplemental security income (SSI). Did he work prior to being diagnosed? If so, and he'll not return to work, is there not any retirement packages offered? Pension Plan (ha ha, I know).Medical benefits through COBRA?Would he qualify for any worker's compensation?Call your county public health office to see what kinds of assistance you can receive from them.County or State Medical Assistance (and never show any shame for having to apply for this. Your situation sounds like it is worsening by the day.On the internet, go to www.grants.gov This will take a bit of time and a lot of reading but you can narrow down for what grants you qualify and then apply...but this may take up to six months to receive any grant money. Grants are free money that you never need to pay back. Those are the ones I can come up with off the top of my head. This part sucks. I had to apply for medicare before my cadaveric organ transplants. It is amazing how fast you go through the money with expensive meds, the doctor visits, the hospitalizations, the treatments, and the rest of the sh** you need to go through. Other complications of the cancer like any neurological difficulties...vision...Don't let me scare you. It is different for everyone. Believe me.I wish you the best of luck. Stay strong for both him and you. Remember to take care of you, also, because right now you are the glue holding his world together. Get enough rest...eat! I hope I helped a little. I'm around.
