I have lived in my house for 15 years and i have refinanced about three times how long should i save mortgage?
Antonclosing papers. Also do I need to save old homeowners insurance policies ?
AmbroseYou need only current insurance policies, unlessyou have some unresolved case. For mortgage it's a good idea to keep all the papers until you sell the house (this is on a very safe side), normally you keep the first and the last package.(When I sold my house, one of the mortgages was still shoeing on title us unpaid, this mortgage was refinanced twice, in this moment I wish I would keep all the packages, this was only way to show that this mortgage was refinance and close, the title company, why did the closing, should record this, but co., went out of business, bank sold the mortgage to another co, "MASS". Cost me money and aggravation to fixed. So now it's your decision, to keep the package or not.
EmilieI would say keep only the most recent. Ask your CPA about the mortgage paperwork and the HUD1s.-Jason
DemarcusI BEEN DOING THE SAME, BUT I KEEP IT FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS, YOU NEVER KNOW...
Jinakeep paperwork for your most recent 2 loans. you want a the ones you have now and the ones you had before. your most recent two loans (closing costs) are tax deductions. keep all the HUD's (settlement statement) from any prior loan, you never know when a title issue will come up and those are REALLY handy in clearing it up.
