I am trying to refinance my house and am being charged 8000 in closing fees and such?

Pam
Is this way too high? I am only refinancing $73, 000. That's way more than 10% of my loan. Is there anything that I can do to get them reduced?

Personally I wouldn't pay anyone more than $2-3k for this service.Sometimes you'll get hit with 2 points upfront, and then they'll take 4 points on the back end from the lender, and then you get all their other fee's.A lot of loan brokers don't view themselves as a "service", but as a "retailer" so they feel they don't need to disclose all this to a customer, I'm surprised you caught it most people don't.Only way to avoid it is to negotiate, or try to find a upfront broker in your area who discloses all fees upfront and doesn't take kickbacks from lenders for increasing your rates.(this is a surprisingly hard thing to find, and most will outright lie to you)

To be blunt, you are getting screwed without the benefit of Vaseline. You need to find a different lender. The only possible reasons that I can think that you are being charged so much are 1. You have VERY BAD credit (FICO score below 500), 2. You are paying a lot of points to reduce your interest rate (a point is equal to 1% or $730 per point paid).

Way too high.Find a new lender. This sounds like a Household Finance/Beneficial or Primerica "refinance". If it is, run, do not walk away.

Fanny
there are fees for getting a refinance. you should try finding another lender who doesn't have that much fees.

Go somewhere else, way too high.
