How long do you hav to own your house before you can refinance it?
DennisThat depends on whether you have prepayment penalty on your loan or you don't. If you do have a prepayment penalty, it is set for a specific period. Normally it is 2 years. This means that if you re-finance within two years, you will have to pay a penalty. The amount will depend on the loan terms, cost of your house, etc.If you do not have a prepayment penalty on your loan, then you can refinance any time you wish, even the next day after you bought your house.
AmbroseMy husband and I bought our house last summer and we refinanced about a month ago. I don't think theres a certain amount of time you have to own before doing it, but it also might depend on your lending bank. Just give them a call and they'll let you know. =)
AidaThere is no "length" requirement. It depends on what you home is worth versus how much you owe on your current mortgage.
